The Journey Continues…

As I come to end of my Digital Learning and Learning (DLL) experience at Lamar University, I am struck by how much I have changed as an educator. What began as an expedient way to a second Master’s Degree has given me the opportunity to transform the way my students learn each day. I invite you to watch the video below where I reflect upon my journey. During the video, I mention various projects and reflections that I completed along my path. Following the video, you will find a link to the posts that I mention.

Video Reflection

Growth Mindset Projects – Throughout the DLL program, I have worked to move from a fixed mindset to a growth mindset. While I have had some success on this part of the journey, I am not there…yet!

Innovation Plan – My innovation plan involves the creation of a blended learning environment in my traditional classroom. This learning experience allows students more control over the pace, place, and time of their learning.

COVA + CSLE – The COVA approach, which gives students choice, ownership, and voice through authentic learning opportunities combines with CSLE (Creating Significant Learning Environments) to provide students with project-based learning experiences that allow them to apply what they have learned.

Three Column Table and Understanding by Design – Both of these models for lesson and unit planning advocate for beginning the planning process with the end in mind. If we do not know the destination, it is impossible to chart a course.

Developing an Online Course – In order to establish an effective in-class blended learning environment, the use of my school’s Learning Management System (LMS) has to be user-friendly to my students. They need to know where to find resources and how to complete assignments.

Professional Learning Plan – Through my work, I have discovered that I have an informed voice and that I have a responsibility to share my insights and all that I have learned with my colleagues. I am proud to say that I have already shared my voice by offering professional learning sessions in our school district’s Tech Academy.

Finding my “Why” – Before we can decide how to do something or what to do, we need to know “why” we are doing what we are doing.

Reflecting on the Journey – Above all else, the DLL experience has taught me that I must never stand still. For as long as my career lasts, I must continue my journey to improve the learning experiences my students.
